We Are Not In Your Plans – Ijaw Youths Issues Warning To Oduduwa, Biafra Agitators

Protesters stormed some portion of the country on Saturday amidst the COVID-19 crisis. it was reported that some youths had staged a protest against bandits attacks in Kaduna state, another occurred in Delta State when the apex youth organisation in the Niger Delta, the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, told Biafra and Oduduwa secessionists to exclude the Ijaw nation out of what they call ‘their utopian republics’.

Kennedy Olorogun, Who has been recognized as the Chairman, IYC Transition Implementation Committee, made the disclosure on behalf of the organisation on Saturday. Olorogun claimed that the Ijaw nation does not need any form of annexation to other ethnonational territories.
According to him, the Ijaw nation is currently confronted with the renewed mission for nationalism within the Nigerian geopolitical arrangement.

Olorogun however noted that the country’s current situation may have induced other tribes, groups and ethnic nationalities in the country, for example the Oduduwa and various movements championing the Biafran cause to renew their agitation for separate states.

The Ijaw youths chairman however said since the Ijaw nation is not adverse to the cause of these groups, the forced annexation and fraudulent redrawing of the geographical boundaries of the Ijaw territories into their dream nations would no longer be tolerated.

He said, ‘We are seizing this medium to inform the promoters and sponsors of the Oduduwa and Biafra republics that they should not include Ijaw territories in their acclaimed nations,”
“The Ijaws are domiciled in Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States and are prominently resident in all the States of the Niger Delta.”
Olorungun in this regard, implored the Oduduwas and the Biafra secessionists to count Ijaw territories out of their utopian republics mission.

The Chairman concluded his statement by clearing the secessionists that the Ijaw nation has the ability to govern itself. “In this vein, the Ijaw nation is watching the unfolding events within the Nigerian polity and at the fullness of time the Ijaw nation would state their position,” He added.
