Why Federal Government Will Continue To Feed School Children Despite Closure Of Schools- Minister

The Federal Government of Nigeria has disclosed that it would continue the ‘School Feeding Programme’ despite the closure of Schools in the country. The action is said to be geared towards care to malnourished children.

Sadiya Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian and social development, said this while giving answers to questions asked at the national briefing of the Presidential Task Force on Coronavirus in Abuja on Tuesday.

Sadiya claimed that channels through which the food would be given to children in 3million households are on inception, And would be on usage as soon as possible.

The Minister said the minister has received directives from the President and the feeding programme would continue.

She said, “We are finalising modalities to distribute food vouchers for food up three million households. Other modalities once finalized with approval from the President will be prioritized.”

Sadiya further added that the Government has secured support the world Food and has adopted door-to-door voucher distribution.

The Programme (School Feeding Programme ) which was introduced by President Buhari in 2016 as part of his social investment program, was incepted to support states across the Federation to feed twenty-four million school children, which would make it the largest of it kind in Africa.
