Why Nigeria Is Not Winning War Against Insecurity – Ahmad Lawan

Ahmad Lawan, Senate President of the 9th assembly

Nigeria Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has disclosed that the failure of the current administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari on security issues, is tantamount to the sting of international politics on the crust of the federal government. The senate President made this disclosure while speaking to newsmen on Sunday, ahead of the first anniversary of the Ninth Senate on Thursday.

Lawan noted that it is difficult for the country to purchase required machinery from advanced countries. He said, “To some extent, we are suffering from international politics. I know that in our efforts to try to buy spare parts for jets, they may write to a certain foreign government and it will take six to nine months while another country will write to the same government and maybe get it in one or two months.”

The senate President further admitted that Nigeria needs more resources and personnel to fortify the Armed Forces. “We need more personnel for the police, Nigerian immigration Service, and almost all the agencies and paramilitary as well,” he said. The Senate President listed the resources needed to include “equipment, machinery and then training,” he added.
