Tarela’s OIFN Shares 100 Menstrual Pad Kits

Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation Nigeria (OIFN), third phase series of intervention towards the girl child and women has been successfully concluded in Nigeria with the distribution of menstrual kits in Lagos.

The outreach event which took place at the Jakande Low Cost Housing Estate in Oke-Afa, Ejigbo according to the OIFN; is essentially, to alleviate the poverty encountered by women and by extension the child in accessing affordable and sustainable menstrual kits, to navigate their menstrual cycles.

According to Tarela Aghanti, the founder of OIF Nigeria, going by the poverty level in developing countries its a challenge for school age girls to afford sanitary wares. This she says gave birth to the collaboration with Days For Girls, USA to provide sustainable menstrual kits for these girls and women.

Participants present at the event with the theme: ‘Hygiene In Mesturation-My Thing’, were educated and empowered with information to go through their menstrual cycles, maintaining the best possible hygiene. And how the kits provided by Days For Girls, can help them avoid possible associated infections, due to unsafe practices occasioned by the inability of these girls and women to access safe and sustainable menstrual kits.

The participants at the end of the programme expressed their appreciation and gratitude to OIF, Nigeria and Days For Girls, for the outreach and pray that the event would be a continuous thing. That this is the first time they are experiencing such charity from any organisation.

According to Tarela Aghanti, a hundred girls and women have been distributed with DfG Kits (that is useable within 2/3 years). Stating that its the first of a longterm envisioned programme by OIF, Nigeria.

On the sustainability of the programme, Aghanti says; “This is the first of the series of intervention and we look forward to keep up with the good work on a yearly basis. And hope that the conversation with Days For Girls goes on positively, with the provision of the menstrual kits on a sustainable basis. We are glad that this has been a good success”.
