UNICAL Rusticates Cross River Speaker, 637 Other Students Over Poor Results

Management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has rusticated 638 students for failing to live up to academic expectations.

Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Ayambem Ekom, is among the expelled students.

Ayambem was a 100 Level student in the Department of Economics in the institution.

The rusticated students, across 15 faculties and departments, were expelled from the institution over poor Cumulative Grade Point Average.

The Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Resource Management, 10 students were withdrawn from the Department of Agricultural Economics.

In the Faculty of Allied Medical Science, the Department of Medical Laboratory recorded 24 casualties.

Others include Faculty of Art and Social Science Education, Department of Art Education – 29; Faculty of Art, Department of Christian Religious Studies – 86.

The Faculty of Basic Medical Science, the Department of Anatomy had 25 students on the list. In the Faculty of Biological Science, the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology, 66 students dropped.

Others included Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Dentistry – eight; Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering – 15.

Ayambem was recently in a Speakership struggle with the son of the University’s Vice Chancellor, Florence Obi.

Ayambem defeated the Vice Chancellor’s son, Hilary Bisong, to become Speaker of Cross River 10th Assembly.
