Fire Engulfs NNPC Tank Farm in Apapa, Lagos

A tank farm belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has been engulfed by a massive fire in the Apapa district of Lagos State. The incident, which occurred at the company’s newly inaugurated terminal, has prompted a full-scale emergency response.

The blaze was reported to have started around 11:00 am local time, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and causing widespread panic among residents and workers in the vicinity. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as people scrambled to safety amidst the roaring flames.

The Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident, stating that a coordinated effort with various emergency responders is underway to contain the fire and prevent further escalation. The Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) and other agencies are also at the scene, battling the inferno.

Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a spillage of petroleum products within the terminal’s perimeter. However, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

As the situation unfolds, the public has been assured that all necessary measures are being taken to bring the fire under control and ensure the safety of all personnel and the surrounding community.
