NFF sympathises with Segun Odegbami over Loss of Son

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed heartfelt condolences to former Nigeria captain, Dr. Olusegun Odegbami, following the tragic loss of his son, Oluwagbeminiyi Omo Odegbami. The young man passed away on Good Friday, March 30, 2024.

Dr. Odegbami, a legendary figure in Nigerian football, made the somber announcement on Wednesday morning, revealing the heartbreaking news to the public. His son’s untimely demise has left a void that no parent should ever have to endure.

Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, MON, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, expressed deep sympathy for the grieving father: “The death of a son is perhaps the worst thing that can happen to any living parent. It is with a deep sense of sorrow that we commiserate with Dr. Olusegun Odegbami. This must be a very tough period for him.”

Dr. Odegbami’s passion for football is well-known. Earlier this year, he covered the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire with unwavering dedication. His fervor for the game and belief in the Super Eagles’ success were evident. Despite the team’s loss in the final match, Dr. Odegbami’s commitment remained unshaken.

The entire Nigeria Football fraternity joins in mourning the loss of Oluwagbeminiyi Omo Odegbami. Dr. Sanusi emphasized: “Most of us marvel at his unflagging love and zest for the Nigeria game. We pray that God gives him the fortitude to pull through these difficult moments and also grant the departed young man eternal rest.”
