Rivers State Crisis: Patience Jonathan Calls for Peaceful Resolution.

In the midst of the lingering political turmoil in Rivers State, former First Lady Patience Jonathan has appealed for a peaceful resolution to the crisis. Her plea comes as the state grapples with the aftermath of the political rivalry between former Governor Nyesom Wike and incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking at the NIPR international colloquium in Abuja, Jonathan emphasized the need for all parties involved to prioritize peace and allow the current administration to function without hindrance. Her remarks were made in the context of the theme “Public Relations, Value Re-orientation, and Economic Transformation.”

The crisis in Rivers State has been marked by tensions between the state government and pro-Wike lawmakers, culminating in recent violent incidents. The state’s political landscape has been volatile since Wike’s departure in May 2023 and the impeachment attempt on Fubara last year. The recent explosion in Port Harcourt has further heightened concerns about the state’s stability.

Jonathan’s appeal for peace highlights the need for a concerted effort to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy to Rivers State.
