The Labour Party (LP) has reaffirmed its position as the sole platform for former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi to contest and secure victory in the 2027 presidential election. In an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” LP’s National Vice Chairman, Ayo Olorunfemi, emphasized the party’s commitment to its social democratic ideology and constitutional principles.
Obi, who previously ran for the presidency under the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, has faced pressure from some members of his Obidient support group to leave the party due to post-election crises. However, Olorunfemi dismissed such calls, labeling them as “delusional.” He asserted that true Obidients would not advise Obi to abandon the party, emphasizing the party’s ideological foundation and its alignment with the aspirations of Nigerian workers and youth.
Olorunfemi expressed confidence that Peter Obi, whom he described as the best president Nigeria is yet to have, would emerge victorious in the 2027 elections. The LP’s leadership, under Julius Abure, is actively working toward reconciliation and strengthening the party. Olorunfemi also confirmed that the Lamidi Apapa camp remains part of the party, and a special convention may address vacant positions.
