Dispute Arises Over Aiyedatiwa’s Influence in Nullification Verdict of LCDAs

Honorable Lucky Aiyedatiwa

The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council has refuted claims that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa played a role in the nullification of the Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ondo State by the state High Court. The court ruling, delivered by Justice A.O Adebusoye, declared the 33 newly created LCDAs illegal and unlawful, overturning their existence.

In response to the verdict, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, criticized the judgment, labeling it as anti-people and detrimental to community development. Ajayi asserted that the suit filed by the PDP aimed at addressing the illegal inauguration of caretaker chairmen rather than abolishing the LCDAs entirely.

However, LACO-FSIC spokespersons condemned Ajayi’s statement, emphasizing that Governor Aiyedatiwa had no influence over the court’s decision. They deemed Ajayi’s remarks reckless and defamatory, urging the judiciary to hold him accountable for impugning the integrity of the sitting judge.

The organization called for evidence supporting the claim that Aiyedatiwa influenced the judgment or requested that Ajayi face appropriate consequences.   The court’s ruling has significant implications for local governance in Ondo State, and the debate surrounding its validity continues. As citizens await further developments, questions persist about the role of political actors in shaping judicial outcomes.
