Tragedy Strikes as Seven Perish in Ibadan-Iseyin Road Accident

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a road accident at Ijaye on the Ibadan/Iseyin route claimed the lives of seven individuals, while fifteen others suffered injuries. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, has sent shockwaves through the community.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the casualties, with the Public Relations Officer, Mr Mayowa Odewo, providing a statement on the tragedy. “The accident involved a head-on collision between a Nissan Urvan commercial bus, with registration number SEY 254 ZY, and a Mazda commercial bus with registration number LGB 343 XA, leading to the unfortunate loss of lives,” Odewo said.

Among the deceased were five male adults, one female adult, and one female child, painting a sombre picture of the day’s events. “It is a devastating loss for the families and the community at large. Our hearts go out to them in this time of sorrow,” Odewo expressed sympathetically.

The injured victims, including three male adults, nine female adults, and one female child, were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The FRSC has reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.

As the community mourns, the FRSC and local authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, with preliminary findings pointing to speed violations and fatigue as contributing factors. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the critical need for road safety awareness.
