Nineteen Children Die from Suspected Measles Complications in Adamawa

First day of Measles vaccination programme in Conakry, the capital of Guinea.

The health crisis in Adamawa State has taken a grim turn as suspected measles complications have claimed the lives of 19 children. The outbreak has raised alarm bells, with over 200 children already infected.

Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami, revealed the severity of the situation in Mubi North Local Government Area. He stated that the outbreak was reported in Yola, prompting swift mobilization of medical personnel and essential drugs to affected communities. Tangwami assured that children with severe infections would be referred to hospitals for immediate attention.

The refusal of parents to immunize their children has been identified as a contributing factor to the outbreak. The medical team is now moving from Mubi to Gombi Local Government Area, where another outbreak has been reported.

The tragic loss of young lives underscores the critical importance of vaccination programs and community awareness. Health authorities are urging parents to ensure their children receive timely vaccinations to prevent further fatalities.
