The Ondo State Police Command has arrested an Islamic cleric, Oluwafemi Idris, for allegedly possessing human body parts. According to a statement released by the spokesperson, SP Funmi Odunlami, the police received a tip-off in January 2024 regarding Idris’ activities.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives attached to the [police division] swung into action and apprehended the suspect,” Odunlami stated. “A search conducted in his residence located in the Akoko area of the state led to the discovery of various human parts, including hands, three kidneys, three hearts, a spine, and a tongue.”
The statement further revealed that Idris claimed to be an Islamic cleric, popularly known as Alfa in his community. He reportedly confessed to obtaining some of the body parts from another cleric and a man named Samuel Kutelu. Idris also allegedly admitted to supplying three human heads to a traditional priest, Babatunde Kayode.
“The suspect has named an Alhaji, also a cleric, and one Samuel Kutelu as his sources for some of the body parts,” Odunlami confirmed. “He further claimed to have supplied three human heads to an Oluawo (Babatunde Kayode). The Oluawo and Kayode have also been arrested by the police.”
The police spokesperson added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other cleric named by Idris. All the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police for Ondo State, Abayomi Oladipo, commended the vigilance of the informant and the professionalism of the arresting officers. He reiterated the police’s commitment to ridding the state of all forms of criminality.
“This is a disturbing discovery,” Commissioner Oladipo said. “We want to assure the public that we will get to the root of this matter and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice. We urge anyone with information about similar criminal activities to come forward.”
