University of Ilorin Expels Six Final Year Students, Rusticates 13 Others for Offenses

The University of Ilorin (Unilorin) has expelled six final year students and rusticated 13 others for their alleged involvement in various academic and behavioral offenses. The announcement was made by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, on April 1st, 2024.

The penalties were imposed following recommendations by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee at its 220th/221st meeting. The affected students were found guilty of offenses ranging from examination malpractice and misconduct to theft, hostel bed-space racketeering, extortion, assault, and admission racketeering.

The severity of the punishments varied depending on the offense. Some students received rustication for one semester or one academic year, while others were expelled entirely. The statement from Unilorin indicated that the affected students were from various academic levels, including 100 level (freshman), 200 level (sophomore), 300 level (junior), and 400 level (senior).

The University of Ilorin has a zero-tolerance policy for academic dishonesty and misconduct. This action by the university underscores its commitment to maintaining academic integrity and a safe learning environment for all students.
