Ondo State Entrepreneurs Network (OSEN) is demanding an investigation into a recent raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on local lounges. Concerns focus on the conduct of the operation, with allegations of harassment and property damage.
A statement by Amb. Ayodeji Inspiration highlights the group’s concern: “While the EFCC has a mandate to fight crime, it should do so legally.” The statement criticizes the raid’s tactics, raising issues of excessive force and disregard for due process.
The Ondo State Entrepreneurs Network echoed these concerns in an official press stetament: “‘A war against one is a war against all,’ the unprofessional raid carried out by the EFCC…has had a negative impact on the affected businesses.” They condemn the act as “a war against entrepreneurs in the state.”
Following the raid, Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, met with owners of the raided nightclubs. The club owners detailed the property damage caused during the operation.
Governor Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the complaints: “There can’t be smoke without fire…the EFCC must have acted on credible intelligence.” He emphasized the importance of due process: “innocent people affected by the operation should seek redress.” He also promised to intervene “wherever necessary.”
The Governor has reportedly contacted security agencies for a clear picture of the incident. He advised club owners to document the damage for official claims.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Entrepreneurs Network plans to visit the affected businesses, demonstrating solidarity with the entrepreneurs.
