Orlando Julius, Chris Ajilo, Latoya Aduke, I.K Dairo To Be Honoured In Ijebu-Ijesa On Saturday

Oba Oluwafemi Agunsoye- Elegburo of Igboroland

Come Saturday, March 23rd, a number of music veterans- both late and present will be honored at Ijebu-Ijesha in Osun State

The ceremony takes place at Ijebu-Ijesha town hall as HRM Oba (Engr) Moses Oluwafemi Agunsoye, Abikehin-Ekun Agunsoye ll of Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, has deemed it fit to honour and give chieftancy titles to some illustrious sons of the land of whom are the living legend and veterans, Orlando Julius and Pa Chris Ajilo and the late I.K Dairo who died in 1996.

Chief Isaac Kehinde Dairo according to Sunday, P.A of the Oba, gets a post humous award for his giant strides in music and music education, and putting Ijebu-ijesha in Osun State on the global map. Orlando Julius Ekemode and his amiable wife, Latoya Aduke will also be honoured by the Oba as Gbelunuyi of Egboroland and Yeye Asa of Egboroland, Ijebu Ijesha respectively.

High life veteran, Pa Chris Ajilo bag a Lifetime Achievement awards. Other honourees of the Lifetime Achievement awards include Pa Adejuyigbe Awotunde, Late Pa Sunday Akunmudan, Late Pa Daniel Onimole (Lekeleke), Late Pa Jossy Komolafe (Egeko System) and Late Pa Samson Aderogba.

Ijebu-Jesa being the traditional headquarters of Egboroland. Egboro land consist of Ijebu-Jesa and twenty other villages under Egboroland.

I.K Dairo serenaded the music scene in Nigeria and beyond with great songs like Feso Jaiye, Asiko, Salome, Ise Ori Ranmi Nimo Nse in the 1960s and 1970s inspiring the likes of Chief Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade and other juju artistes of days of yore.

Few artists have been more crucial to the invention, development, and popularization of Afro-pop than Orlando Julius. Starting in the ’60s, Julius was fusing traditional African sounds and rhythms with those of American pop, soul, and R&B. Aside from performing and recording in his native Nigeria, he spent many years in the United States working on collaborations with Lamont Dozier, the Crusaders, and Hugh Masekela.

To crown the day, there will be a series of performances on that day which includes some of the the awardees like the Eko Gbagbere exponent, Chris Ajilo performing as well as Orlando Julius to name a few. Also the Performing Musician Association of Nigeria PMAN Ijebu-Ijesha will be rolling out the drums to support their own in performances and other suprises.
