Uncompleted Bridges, Interchange Ready June – Oyo

The Oyo State Government has said all the bridges and interchanges currently being constructed by the current administration will be completed in June, 2023.

A statement by the state government said 20 years after the Ibadan Circular Road was conceived, it took off successfully in 2022 under the administration of the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde, with the construction of more bridges and interchanges.

It noted that Lagos travellers going to other states would no longer have to pass through the Ibadan built-up area.

It added, “From the Technical University on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, the first phase of the new road starts and comes out a few kilometers to the Asejire Bridge on the Ibadan-Ife Road.”

The state Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof Daud Sangodoyin, said on Friday that when completed, the project would not only remove traffic stress from Ibadan metropolis, it would also lead to the creation of ultra-modern settlements along the new road.

The statement noted that the 110km road project was named the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road by Makinde on September 29, 2022, in honour of Ladoja, who conceived the project when he was the governor of the state.

Following the inspection of the road by Makinde on December 19, 2022, the state government said it had since provided periodic updates on the construction of six bridges including two interchanges on the East End Wing of the road.

Sangodoyin in his update told Saturday PUNCH that the bridges and interchanges should be completed by June 2023, adding that “the project is progressing very well and the quality of work done so far is excellent.”

He added, “The 110km circular road project is a concession; Build, Operate and Transfer concept, which has evolved after three attempts spanning many administrations since 2003.

“The current approach guarantees Oyo State government counterpart funding to the tune of N35.97bn. This counterpart funding seeded into the project to show Oyo State Government’s commitment to improving investor/concessionaire confidence is currently being used to execute the interchange and bridges scope of the 32km South-East segment of the road at about 30 per cent progress to date.”

The commissioner also noted that the project was currently in the ‘value engineering phase’, adding that this was to optimise the previous design.
